Our Startupbootcamp Journey – Corporate Success!

The past month of our Startupbootcamp journey has been a whirlwind of inspirational encounters, impactful endeavors and pitch planning! Here’s a little look into what life at Brownie Points has been like the last couple of weeks….

Meetings, meetings, meetings

Week 7 of our Startupbootcamp journey proved to be one of the most successful weeks yet. We met with Old Mutual and RCS to discuss the possibility of a potential partnership in the future and even had the privilege of meeting with the Head of the Old Mutual Foundation. It was truly inspiring to see the incredible impact the CSI branch of Old Mutual is having. They’ve invested over R53 million in 3000 plus causes to date! We’re really excited to explore how Brownie Points can help the Old Mutual Foundation team in the future.

Inspirational People

Week 8 was wrapped in ribbons of selfless service as we prepared for the Santa Shoebox project at Woolworths Financial Services. Here we shared the festive love with the Just Cause team, a group of awesome humans responsible for driving staff volunteering initiatives at WFS (including everything from blanket drives to Mandela Day and Movember).

I also met with one of the founders of SAEP, a fantastic organisation supporting causes in early childhood  development up to post-matric education in underprivileged areas. One of their projects includes supporting 180 creches in the Philippi area – absolutely awe-inspiring!

Pitch & Woolworths Financial Services Santa Shoebox Project

Weeks 9 and 10 were adrenaline pumped and action-packed as we prepared our pitch for Demo Day on 30 November. During those 2 weeks, our pilot with WFS and Santa Shoebox Project was a massive success! It was a truly humbling experience to see 180 staff members ensure 352 kids receive Christmas presents this year. This pilot reflected what Brownie Points is all about: rallying passionate people around a common cause to have an exponential impact.

RCS Gugulethu Reconciliation Race 2017

After many days slogging and sweating away, we finally completed our pitch! I cannot emphasize how important this pitch is…. Have a look at these Startupbootcamp pitches given in the past to see what we’ve got in store.

And lastly, we’ve also begun preparing our pilot with RCS, where we’ll track staff participation and volunteering for the annual RCS Gugulethu Reconciliation Race. To join the RCS team, and explore the vibrant Gugulethu community, sign up here.

And that’s a wrap (for now!) Final chapter of our SBC journey coming soon.
